German Maggini copy violin
SKU: S671
This late nineteenth century German violin is a fine example of Vogtland “Maggini”-style instruments, sporting the traditional double purfling lines and long “Brescian” ‘f’ holes. Instead of the standard scroll, the head is carved in the likeness of Mozart, whose name is stamped on the back inside an attractive lozenge-shaped purfling inlay. The 14.5 inch body length and broad arching give the violin a very dark, woody, characterful sound, especially with the application of more bow pressure. The lower registers are rich, with plenty of energy and carrying power. This violin will blend well in ensemble playing, as well as provide a satisfying solo sound.
