WE Hill and Sons Violin 1927

SKU: S641

These days the celebrated English firm W.E. Hill and Sons often seems more famous for its bows and for its expertise - a “Hill” certificate of authenticity is still a wonderful asset. Violins, however, were a major part of their production from the 1880s well into the twentieth century, with their mostly French violin makers, led by Charles Francois Langonet, considering themselves a cut above the bow makers in their downstairs workshop. This beautiful example, dated 1927, has an exquisitely flamed maple back matched by similar wood in the ribs, neck and head. The tone is exceptional: immediate, precise and incredibly responsive, with a wide complexity of tonal colours, combining richness and brilliance. This is the perfect instrument for a soloistic player who projects and to wants to blend with other ensemble musicians.
